University is a haven of opportunities. . . for students, assignments, fieldwork, lecturers, clinical educators.

For students:

  • Put OOFRAS brochures on student notice boards to start a student network
  • Student Association BBQ to support a refugee project/event in the community
  • Browse OOFRAS site for past projects, can you take it a step forward?
  • Use your assessments as opportunities to explore refugee and role emerging issues

For assignments:

  • Cultural competency eg review a service 
  • Service development/ review eg life skills group
  • Literature review eg occupational deprivation
  • Needs analysis eg occupational issues of refugee children
  • Grant writing assignment eg partners with local agency

For field work:

  • Seek a innovative fieldwork experience co-supervised by an OOFRAS OT (trans-cultural mental health centre, migrant settlement agency, refugee health clinic, torture and trauma agency, non government agency for asylum seekers, overseas if you can afford it!)

For lecturers:

  • Talk to the OOFRAS Coordination team about guest lectures (occupational issues of refugees, transcultural mental health etc)

For  OTs and clinical educators:

  • Co-supervise a fieldwork placement with a refugee agency
  • Offer a refugee topic for a honors research project
  • Be a mentor for an OOFRAS OT student or student group
