Australian Refugee

Australians Against Racism will orient you to innovative projects and ideas for tackling the barriers refugees face to participation in the community and life roles. It is appalling to think refugees have fled human rights abuses to then be punished with explicit/implicit racism. The resource guide includes relevant articles, videos, CD’s and books.

Centre for Multicultural Youth Issues has a number of downloads giving a snapshot of statistics and issues relevant for youth from a refugee background.

Centre for Refugee Research has resources on refugee rights, law, policy and service provision.

Children out of Detention focuses on protecting the rights of children. The site has a wealth of general info., poems, quotes, speeches, news and links. You can check out an excellent 91 page report about the state of children in detention (2002), which outlines detention center standards and policies, highlights alleged breeches, and includes a varied bibliography.

Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs contains an index of fact sheets with great background information and current status of the "system".  Migrant/refugee visa categories are explained, along with detention arrangements. 

Radio National has a plethora of program transcripts on refugees that you can browse through; simply do a key word search with "refugee" or "asylum seeker".

Researchers for Asylum Seekers aims to "spread knowledge not fear".  The site focuses on research, forums and conferences; event listings and information packs are also included.

Rural Australians for Refugees presents a fabulous collection of publications, videos, books and CD's.  "When you know the facts you will open your heart". 

Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia (FECCA) is the Australian national peak body that promotes multiculturalism, community harmony and social justice. It is involved in community education, advocacy for equitable access to services and information for Australians from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, human and cultural rights.

Centre for Culture, Ethnicity & Health is a Victorian site with some handy "how to" guides (eg assessing the need for an interpreter, consumer participation etc)
