Governance

What is governance? Doing the right thing to realise our vision (what we do - leadership) in the right way (how we do it - management) and being accountable for it.

Whether good or bad, governance becomes "the way we do things here" so rather than leave it to chance, we work towards good governance processes. This protects and serves the trust involved in a labour of love.

For little ol OOFRAS? Yup. Not-for-profit is misleading. We do indeed strive for profit. Instead of dollars, we define profit as occupational opportunities. Instead of profit for shareholders, our profit is for refugees and asylum seekers; directly through better access to OT, and indirectly through better quality of OT service, and sustainably through leadership.

So we are in business. We engage the good will and resources of others to strive for this profit, we are accountable for both the "profit" generated by our business and "how" we do business. To this end we submit to the Code of Governance for the Australian Community Sector as a yard stick for our practice and development.

Who "does it?" The Leadership - global team is the board of directors leading OOFRAS as an organisation. By thinking beyond our personal engagement with the vision and mission, we work to leave structures to support a generation of OTs engaging with the vision and mission confidently, easily, and effectively.

Everyone joins a board with good intentions. Typically directors have limited experience with boards and governance, and embark of a journey of learning and growth alongside service. Here we honour the invaluable contributions of board members and are indebted to their passion and committment. Crissy Hubbard, Jess Leggatt and Sally Datson (founding members) and Emma Campbell, Aakifah Suleman, Linda Rylands, Karina Pont,Lluisa Murray, Ellen Fruijtier!
